2016 Chevrolet Volt to debut at 2015 NAIAS

2016 Volt
Volt owners are driving more than 63 percent of their overall miles in electric vehicle mode, collectively logging more than 500 million gas-free miles since the Volt’s retail debut in 2010. That has saved more than 25 million gallons of gasoline.

While the driving range in EV mode can be affected by temperature, driving technique and terrain, the ease with which Volt drivers are avoiding gasoline use demonstrates the Volt’s suitability for almost any lifestyle.

Volt owners who charge regularly typically drive more than 970 miles between fill-ups and visit the gas station less than once a month.

Chevrolet Volt Earns IIHS Top Safety Pick + Award

Out of 12 cars, the Forward Collision Alert system integrated in the 2014 Chevrolet Volt earned it the Institute for Highway Safety’s 2014 Top Safety Pick award. Added to that, the Chevrolet Volt also earned a decent score in a tough small overlap front crash test, conducted by the IIHS. The amazing test results put this car at a better stance compared to its competitors, both in small and electric power train car segments.

The IIHS senior vice president for vehicle research, Joe Nolan explained that the outstanding performance of the Chevrolet Volt puts it at the top among the safest small cars. He also praised GM for coming up with such a strong small car, which was designed even before the crash tests were introduced. The Volt managed to secure the highest, ‘good’ rating in four out of the six IIHS tests. In the remaining two Structure category and the Restraints and Kinematics tests, the car earned a decent ‘acceptable’ rating.

The vice president of GM Global Vehicle Safety explained how the company aims to keep up with the solid safety standards. He added that achieving the highest safety ratings in the IIHS tests is also highly valued by the customers. The overlap front crash test was introduced in 2012 and it simulates a collision with an object, like a tree, on the front corners of the vehicle at 40mph. This way, the front bumpers are avoided so that the energy from the impact is equally distributed throughout the car. According to the IIHS, the overlap front crash test is still considered one of the most challenging tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the IIHS.

Electric vehicles, well known for silent driving, also are muting the ding of gas pumps. In less than three years, Chevrolet Volt owners in California have driven more than 130 million all-electric miles, avoiding use of an estimated 7 million gallons of gas – enough to mute gas pumps across the state for nearly eight hours.

More than 40 percent of Volt owners live in California, making the extended-range electric vehicle the top-selling plug-in electric vehicle in the Golden State.

Chevrolet Accelerates to 4G LTE Speeds in 2014

Starting this summer, Chevrolet will have some of the fastest vehicles on the roads, and that has nothing to do with horsepower. Chevrolet drivers will be enjoying high-speed data - made possible by a new OnStar 4G LTE connection in the vehicle, running on AT&T's network, the nation's fastest and most reliable 4G LTE network.

Chevrolet announced at the Consumer Electronics Show that the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette, Impala, Malibu, and Volt would be the first General Motors' vehicles to come optionally equipped with OnStar 4G LTE. They will be followed by the Equinox, Silverado, Silverado HD, Spark and Spark EV. In the Canadian market, OnStar with 4G LTE will be introduced on the Chevrolet Trax as well. The majority of the 2015 Chevrolet lineup in the U.S and Canada will have a 4G LTE connection built-in at vehicle launch. More models will be announced later this year.
